Historically, its place in Boston’s past and future is an important one;  Mission Hill is home to several of Boston’s most cherished historic structures. Mission Hill also boasts an active artist community.   Its connection and proximity to the Longwood Medical Area and the local universities (Harvard, Northeastern, MassArt, and Roxbury Community) provides a vitality that feeds the local commerce and brims with activity day and night.    

Also known for its spectacular views of the city, Mission Hill has been called “Boston’s most diverse” neighborhood. While it’s a mere stone’s throw from green space such as the Fenway’s Leverett Pond and the rest of the “Emerald Necklace”, Mission Hill boasts some great spaces of its own, most notably, the newly revamped Kevin W. Fitzgerald Park (formally the Puddingstone Park).

Mission Hill was once a puddingstone quarry.   Its far-reaching bedrock of Puddingstone, known officially as Roxbury Conglomerate, is the official rock of Massachusetts, owing to its use throughout the region during the building boom of late 1800s.  Perhaps the textured rock’s most famous incarnation is the world renowned Our Lady of Perpetual Help Basilica.   

Stop & Shop, JP Licks, 7-Eleven, Walgreens, Citizens Bank, and any number of independently owned shops and businesses. For pubs and restaurants, Mission Hill has a great selection:  from the urbane Mission Bar and Grill to the beloved Penguin Cafe, there’s always something exciting to satisfy your palette.  There are quite a few pubs to choose from, most notably Flann O’Brien’s—if Boston is a city known for its neighborhood Irish Pubs, than Flann O’Brien’s (known simply as Flann’s by the locals) may be its most notable ambassador.  For yummy pub grub, there’s the Squealing Pig just around the corner.   

Mission Hill is a neighborhood that connects the old and new, the modern and historic.  A great place to live and a great community to be part of.
